I wasn't looking for God........

I wasn’t looking for God. Truthfully, that was the furthest thing from my thoughts thirty five years ago. I was headed for another party, another wild time, when I found myself in trouble with the police – again – and arrested for a crime.

Not raised in a Christian home, I didn’t grow up reading the Bible. As a teenager my rebellion manifested itself in crime, drugs, and a wild lifestyle. I definitely wasn’t looking for God! But thankfully, He was looking for me! Jesus Christ declared, “For the son of man is come to seek and to save that which is lost”. (Luke 19:25) And I was definitely lost. In this passage from the Bible “lost” is defined as the opposite of “saved”. To be “saved” means that I must recognize that God’s wrath is against me. Because I am a sinner there is a penalty and if I die lost I will face God’s judgment. (Romans 6:23)

Thirty five years ago I was lost – but then found! Found by the God who loved me enough to send His Son Jesus Christ to die for me! “God demonstrated His love towards us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). He paid the penalty for my sin that I might be forgiven.

I didn’t set out that day to become a Christian, a believer in Jesus Christ. But confronted with my own sin and messed-up life I knew I needed help beyond my own efforts. Caring Christians pointed me to a Seeking Savior. I called upon the name of the Lord and He saved me! (Romans 10:13) Forgiveness of
sins, eternal life and a new beginning were now mine! Now I can sing, “I once was lost, but now, am found”.

You may not be looking for God but He is looking for you.
